Do you suffer from thinning hair? There are many reasons for thinning hair and hair loss, including types of medication, hormonal imbalances due to pregnancy & post pregnancy as well as hereditary qualities & of course stress, and it is important to visit your doctor to rule out underlying medical causes before commencing any treatment.  Once medical causes have been ruled out, there are quite a few options available to help thicken hair, and give the appearance of fuller hair – from hair thickening treatment products, to hair plugs to help thicken hair, and a new one we’ve just discovered – Scalp and Hairline Tattoos. We spoke to Niki Cirillo, owner of ProCosmediq to find out more about the Scalp and Hairline Tattoo process.

According to Niki, Scalp & Hairline Tattoo is a meticulous procedure. It involves the implantation of pigment granules (using a microneedle) in the upper layer of the scalp to create a fuller, thicker & natural hair hairline. The service is also highly popular as it can target one particular area. A powdered camouflage (to blend with their natural hair colour), small dots or hairlines can be created so that the missing hair patch can be covered & mimic a natural appearance. With the correct aftercare & sun protection, the results can last anywhere between 1-3 years. A brief touch-up (at this time) can be booked to refresh & restore any lightly faded areas. The treatment takes between 2 – 3 sessions to complete (occasionally a 4th is needed), with the appointments are spread over 4 – 6 weeks to allow for healing. The cost can range from $500 – $2500. Factors that may impact the service cost, include scars, alopecia, minimal hairline tattoo, small patch, full scalp or touch ups.

Some of the benefits of Scalp and Hairline Tattoos include Eliminating the ‘daily routine’ of having to use products to cover up the bald patch, and most significantly holistic healing (not just aesthetic improvements). According to Niki, when someone feels good about themselves from the inside, their social & mental wellbeing is significantly boosted. Niki says “it is really exciting to see a new, more confident version of my patient during their transformation journey”.

If this sounds like something that could work for you, and your doctor has eliminated medical causes for hair thinning and loss, contact Niki for further advice (I have not personally tried the service, so cannot speak from experience). Niki works out of Wollongong NSW, and offers a mobile service into Sydney (and will travel throughout Australia – border restrictions permitting). Attendance at a clinic for the Scalp & Hairline Tattoo service is always essential.
