Creams vs Lotions – what is the difference?
We see so many brands with Creams and Lotions for face (and body), that it makes us wonder -what is the difference, and which works best?
The answer is not always so straight forward, however in general, Face Creams/Crème’s are rich in texture, and more suitable for skin that is drier in nature and needs more intense hydration. Many facial creams also have products for extra dry skin – needed for some skins that are experiencing a period of extreme dryness, or during winter for example.
If your skin is not quite as dry (or the weather is warmer or you live in a more humid part of Australia and you want a less rich moisturiser), then a Lotion or Emulsion will generally suit your needs. If there is a tester in store, or samples at a cosmetic counter, try the product before you purchase, to make sure it is suitable for your needs.
As there is no “one size fits all” solution in skincare, the most important thing when choosing a moisturiser, is to look for one that suits your skins underlying concerns, such as lines, wrinkles, pigmentation and so on. Once you have found a moisturiser that will suit the concern, then look for the best consistency.
